'Blasted'

Off the Grid Theatre Company is known for its provocative, outside-the-box productions. It staged spring’s Equus in an unassuming South End storefront, receiving rave reviews with its take on the disturbing drama about a psychiatrist and a teenage patient who has a psychosexual obsession with horses. But the tiny fringe company has pushed itself further for its 10th production, a staging of late playwright Sarah Kane’s Blasted, which received equal parts praise and condemnation when it debuted in London. The controversial drama follows a misogynistic journalist, his much younger female companion and a war-damaged soldier during the course of five scenes set in and around a hotel room, where the three inflict unspeakable acts of emotional, physical and sexual violence upon one another. Not intended for audiences under the age of 17 (or the faint of heart). Tickets $25; $15 students
