Norwegian DJ Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll, also known as Kygo, begins most of his tracks at the keyboard—but unlike many electronic music producers, it’s not one plugged into a computer. The 26-year-old began his musical career with piano lessons and only became interested in EDM in 2009 after hearing remixes by Avicii. The SoundCloud sensation shirks shrieking synths in favor of a blend of instrumental and electronic beats, and his “tropical house” tracks are slower and more melodic than typical EDM thrashers, earning him international fandom and a set at the closing ceremonies of the 2016 Olympics.
