A new work by playwright Gabriel Jason Dean, Heartland is based on true events and paints an emotional perspective of America’s fraught relationship with terrorism in the Middle East. Part of the National New Play Network’s rolling world premiere initiative—which debuts multiple productions in three or more theaters in the same year—this drama from New Repertory Theatre follows the story of Nazrullah, an Afghan refugee, who appears at the home of Harold Banks and claims a connection to the former professor’s family. Through a series of flashbacks, the tragedies of both of their pasts are laid bare.
