Kiss of the Spider Woman

For its staging of the musical Kiss of the Spider Woman—based on the novel by Argentinian writer Manuel Puig—Lyric Stage Company and director Rachel Bertone transport the audiences from the streets of Boston to a cramped Latin American prison. The plot follows Molina, a gay window dresser imprisoned for “deviant behavior,” and cellmate Valentin, an anti-government revolutionary. Molina passes the bleak days by conjuring imaginings of a seductive movie star, Aurora—played by Broadway veteran Lisa Yuen—who can kill a man with just a kiss.
