Laurie Halse Anderson’s 'Shout'

Twenty years after Laurie Halse Anderson’s trailblazing novel Speak sparked conversations about rape in America, she continues that same dialogue in her new memoir, Shout. In this poetic, free-verse work, Anderson shares her experience as a rape survivor through personal accounts of assault as well as other anecdotes from her life. She critiques society’s failure to change its patterns of sexual assault and praises those brave enough to stand up for themselves as part of the #MeToo movement. Shout together at the Brattle Theatre on March 13. / Morgan Hume
