Liz Phair

In 1993, Liz Phair emerged from the suburbs of Chicago and released Exile in Guyville—a song-by-song response to the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main Street—and now the rock artist is celebrating the 25th anniversary of her subversive album with an international tour. After six more albums, Phair took a back seat in the music industry, dabbling in television composing and acting, including sketches from CollegeHumor and full-length features such as Cherish. In May, she released an Exile retrospective, which includes exclusive tracks from her Girly-Sound cassettes, the bedroom-recorded EPs that snagged her a record deal with Matador Records in 1991.
