Once

SpeakEasy Stage Company wants you to fall for its production of Once, the Tony Award-winning musical based on the 2007 film of the same name. On the streets of Dublin, an aspiring musician laments his heartbreak and meets a vivacious Czech performer and immigrant—the two known only as “Guy” and “Girl.” As they help each other with their musical careers, a romance enriches and complicates their paths, told through acoustic ballads and sorrowful songs. The show’s ensemble also acts as an onstage orchestra, with exiting cast members stepping to the back of the stage and picking up instruments of their own. Fall into the rhythm at the BCA’s Calderwood Pavilion through April 7. / Caroline Long
