Vibrations: A Sound Experience

Most people likely think of meditation as silent experience, during which one reaches a higher plane by means of some kind of spiritual vacuum. Not so Vibrations: A Sound Experience, an interactive exhibit by artists MJ Caselden and Derek Hoffend, which aims to use sound and magnetic vibrations as transformative tools through which viewers can explore alternate modes of consciousness. Sounds like trippy stuff, but the conceit of the exhibit is firmly rooted in the physical, requiring user interaction with the installation’s tonal vibrations, which are rooted in therapeutic and meditative studies. The exhibit runs from June 3-July 2 at Boston Cyberarts Gallery, but guests are first invited to join Caselden for a Magnetic Sound Bath, during which the artist will lead a meditative listening session of vibrations channeled through wood and metal. Raise the volume and lower your heart rate at the Sound Bath from 7-8 pm on June 1.
