In April 2017, after a decade dealing in rare books and manuscripts, Gabriel Boyers opened Kabinett Gallery inside a 200-square-foot space—only slightly larger than an actual cabinet of curiosities. He’s since gained more breathing room, bringing exciting, eclectic art back to the SoWa site previously occupied by the late, lamented Samsøn Projects. The new digs debuted with Killers & Thrillers, which featured works by more than 50 artists, from Paul Gachet’s deathbed sketch of Vincent Van Gogh to a collection of shanks from Folsom Prison and erotic lithographs by John Lennon and Marlene Dumas. Thrilling indeed.
