Isabella Stewart Gardner famously stipulated that her precise arrangement of art must remain unchanged, but there’s still plenty in motion at the museum. Indeed, the Gardner is putting new emphasis on dance with programming like November’s Migrations, which featured four world premieres, including one by Boston- and Port-au-Prince-based choreographer Jean Appolon that drew on his own immigration experience. Plus, the museum recently appointed its first choreographer-in-residence, Dance Complex executive artistic director Peter DiMuro, who’ll be creating works that respond to the collection. Nice move.
