Sisters Nikoleta and Vicky Lirantonakis got the idea for their new business venture from an unlikely source: a group text among girlfriends about a last-minute fashion emergency. “One of our friends used an online rental company and got the dress and hated it, but ended up wearing it anyway because she was stuck with it and had no other time to find something else,” Nikoleta recalls. “We really wished that there was a brick-and-mortar we could visit to try the dresses on.”

Seven months after that fruitful conversation, the sisters opened Best Dressed in the Charlestown Navy Yard. The only designer rental store of its kind in Boston, it offers five-day rentals for dresses ($40-$150) and accessories ($10-$40), along with a selection of accessories for sale. Each sister brings her own expertise to the shop: Vicky manages the business side in addition to working by day at Hill Holiday, while Nikoleta draws on 10 years of fashion experience for styling, buying and merchandising. She curates a lineup of modern and vintage styles that range from edgy to classic and include designers like Nanette Lepore, GiGi New York and Parker, helping clients find the right look for a big event. “That’s what it’s all about,” she says, “to be able to help someone get to that place where they feel beautiful in a split second.” With summer wedding season in full swing, we asked each sister to style a look for an extra-special occasion.
