The Sumaira Foundation for NMO hosted the fourth annual NMO Awareness Gala at the Mandarin Oriental on March 23. The organization was founded by executive director Sumaira Ahmed after she was diagnosed with neuromyelitis optica, a rare, incurable autoimmune disease affecting the optic nerves and spinal cord. The 250 guests dressed the part for the enchanted forest-themed evening while raising more than $60,000 toward research grants.
