The unofficial end-of-summer/back-to-school social event of the year, From Fenway to the Runway, took place in the swanky ballroom of Hotel Commonwealth and featured a fashion show with Red Sox wives modeling the latest from Bloomingdale’s to raise money for the Red Sox Foundation.
The Improper was proud to sponsor the event, which was like the cool kids gathering in the cafeteria, except that alcohol was served. Over bubbles and rosé, there was lots of catch-up kibitzing among a crew still sun-kissed from Nantucket/Martha’s Vineyard/Cape Cod/Wherever. Front and center: first lady of Red Sox Nation Linda Pizzuti Henry, her smashing sisters, Laura Pizzuti-Gamache, Donna Pizzuti Brodigan and Tina Pizzuti-Brzezenski, their uber-fabulous mom, Marie, the always sparkling Ashley Renzi, broadcasting babe Sue Brady Hartigan, the pert and purdy Emily Kaplan, raven-haired beauty Wendy Dodson, the magnificent Margaret McNeill, costume queen Lynne Smith, teal-eyed stunner Julie Gordon, bubbly fashion plate Tonya Chen Mezrich, the flawless Elena Matlack, event czar Bryan Rafanelli, the beyond gorgeous Adele Chang, Beacon Hill yummy mummy Liz Georgantas, English rose Emma-Louise Pickard, blond Bond girl Ashley Bernon, glowing newlywed Nina Jung Gasparrini, Bloomie’s grand pooh-bah Matt “I Sell Dresses at the Mall” Dunphy, the comme il faut Patty Ribakoff, Chestnut Hillion Nancy Adams, media maven Julie Kahn and so on and so forth.
Not surprisingly, when it came to outfits, red was the new black, although black featured prominently in the fashion show, with one dress prompting a guest to mutter, “It’s a little too Morticia Addams for my taste.”
Meanwhile, another guest took some gentle ribbing for having a nanny for his dog, while someone else said, “My Spanx are cutting off all sensation below the waist.”
However, the afternoon’s best exchange came when a woman said, “Last night, I kissed a guy whose last name I don’t know,” to which her friend responded, “Oh, please. I’ve slept with guys whose first names I never bothered to find out.” ◆
