An event called the Wonder Ball has a lot to live up to, but the fact that there were guests who flew all the way from the U.A.E. to attend is proof that the black-tie hootenanny to benefit the Children’s Museum is a fundraiser of epic proportions.
There’s something slightly incongruous yet completely welcome about walking into a space usually crammed with little ankle-biting mouth-breathers and instead being greeted by a fully stocked bar. The gilded guest list included co-chairs Janna and Sean O’Neill, Phil and Julie Gordon, and Aisha Al Riyami and Wadhah Al-Adawi, the ridiculously gorgeous Jenny Fitzsimmons and her equally toothsome other half, Pedro Bonilla, do-gooding doctors Vanessa Kerry and Brian Nahed, best-seller machine Ben Mezrich and his fashion plate, Tonya, Colombian supermodel Pamela Vargas, equestrienne extraordinaire Christy Cashman, brunette yummy mummy Kathryn Burton and her main squeeze, Chad Jackson, all-around badass Sabra Katz, corkscrew-curled beauty Emma Pickard, and pretty much every other philanthropically inclined parent of a child in Boston.
After a delicious dinner and some blessedly brief remarks, the first floor was transformed into a psychedelic disco, prompting one guest to observe: “I’m shaking my ass where I’m usually wiping my 4-year-old’s nose.” ◆
