Chilacates took a long time to get up and running, but the wait was worth it for owner and longtime JP resident Socrates Abreu. At his pint-sized taqueria, which recently opened a few paces from the Stony Brook T station, everything is made from scratch—right down to the corn tortillas (they’re small, but big on flavor) and the rojo and verde hot sauces. Enjoy them in a taco such as the al pastor, that killer combination of spit-roasted pork shoulder and smoky fresh pineapple that Chilacates does especially well.
